Create unique Minecraft-themed pixel art from any photo with Spritecraft.

Spritecraft is a free program for Windows that lets you transform any photo into a beautiful Minecraft-inspired work of pixel art! All you have to do is drag and drop you photo into the program and run!

But that's not all this app offers, and once you figure out how the program works you’ll be creating beautiful works of art and custom Minecraft schematics in no time!

With this program, you can export all of your creations into MCedit as schematics and then import those into your Minecraft games too! You can also import texture packs to create themed content, and you can even choose to use just the sides or tops of your favorite resource blocks.

The full version of the program allows you to work with images as large as 6000x4000 pixels and offers some really neat features; it costs nothing to upgrade to the full version, the developer only asks you to donate if you find the software useful.

While there’s a lot to love about Spritecraft, it’s important to keep in mind that it can get a little complex and hard to use at times. Dropping in an image that’s only 500x500px for example will take a few seconds to render, but larger pictures with more colors and shadows can take several minutes to render. The learning curve for some of Spritecraft’s more advanced features can also be somewhat steep, but once you master them you’ll be amazed with the results!

Overall, we love most of what Spritecraft has to offer. For most users, it’s an easy way to produce Minecraft-inspired pixel art in a few seconds, and power users can use it to create interesting new content that can be imported directly into Minecraft, too! It’s definitely worth a download, if only to see what your favorite SNES sprites would look like in Minecraft.

  • Fun and Easy Interface The GUI mimics the look and feel of many standard Minecraft loaders, so it’s not hard to use – and there are many advanced functions available for power users too!
  • Pay What You Want Spritecraft is donationware, so you can unlock the features of the full program without paying a dime… doesn’t hurt to donate if you find the program useful, though!
  • Create Unique Minecraft-Themed Images With this program you’ll be able to load custom textures, use only the sides or undersides of blocks and so much more to create unique Minecraft-themed pixel art from any picture.

  • Works Slowly on Larger Images It only takes a few seconds to render a 30x30 block picture, but the larger your image the longer it takes the program to compile and render your data.
  • Expect Mixed Results on More Complex Renders Large complex photos (think large portraits or landscapes, for example) may not render very well with this program without some serious tweaking in the advanced settings panel.
